Report From the Front

Having returned almost two hours ago from an overnight at Camp Saginaw, I feel empowered to say that the Henderson Marching Warriors are working hard and sleeping very little. Last night they rehearsed and drill until about 10:30, had to be in their cabins by 11:15 and lights out at 10:40. Roll-out was at 6:00 (Argh!)

The boys in my cabin (6) comported themselves like the fine gentlemen we all know they are. The only thing that gave me pause was what I perceived to be an anomaly in their taste in music. Since when do 21st century teens obsess over Cream, The Allman Brothers and Led Zeppelin? Am I missing something here or is this not very odd?

Come to think of it, there was something else. At about 2 o'clock in the morning one of the boys in the row of bunks opposite my own was "reciting" drum lines in his sleep. Very odd indeed.

But seriously, if you all could have seen those kids lining up at 6:30 to march single-file into the morning mist it's break your heart with pride. Mine certainly did.
