Time to Speak Up

It has come to our attention that next year Peirce students will not be permitted to march or compete with the Henderson Band. This decision was not made by the School Board. It is our belief that the School Board is not aware of this situation.

As a parent of a former Peirce student who did march with the Henderson Band, I know how beneficial and enjoyable it was for her. I know that there are others of you who feel the same way.

We need to let the Board know of the positives associated with our middle school children being members of the Henderson Band. We can do this by attending the Monday, Nov. 26, School Board meeting and letting our opinions known to the Board.

In order to speak at the Board meeting, you must call the Board secretary this week so that you can be put on the agenda for the meeting. If you do not do this, you will not be able to express your opinions to the Board. The secretary's phone number is 484-266-1125. Remember, that the District offices will only be open on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week because of the holiday.

I do urge everyone who has had or currently has a Peirce student in the Band to attend the meeting and let the Board know in a very positive way about this decision that has been made and your feelings regarding this decision. Let them know about the pluses associated with your child being a member of the Band.

If you think they look hot and tired, you're right!
They were very thankful for Mrs. Otto's watermelon and freeze pops that day!

More Hershey Photos

Here are some pictures of the championship I just got back from the developer. They are of the band warming up before the competition. I say warm-up, but as everyone remembers it was freezing.I was really impressed that the band was able to stand in this parking lot for at least an hour before performing and warm-up, and freeze, and then put on their best performance of the year.

Mike's trombone teacher, who has been involved with marching bands for years and who was at Hershey, told him that the Henderson band put on such a great performance and that they set the bar so high that other bands had to really reach just to get close. It is a real testament to the dedication of the band members and the coaching they received.

There are also two pictures of the parents at the tailgate before the show.

Veteran's Day Parade '07

Apologies in advance for the paucity of photos of our Warriors marching in the Veterans Day Parade. We were not at the top of our reportorial game on Sunday, having scarcely recovered from a fantastic previous Saturday event at Hershey Park Stadium.

This is It!

Our Band will be competing in the championships on Saturday, Nov. 10, at Hersey Stadium. We hope that everyone can come to cheer on our kids—including the Parade Band members and families. The Band will be leaving Henderson at 2 p.m. They are scheduled to perform at 5:45 p.m., and awards are at 8:45 p.m.

To carry on the tradition, the Booster Parents will be tailgating before the performance in the stadium parking lot. We hope that all will be able to come! We will be parked to the left of the box office. Look for the blue canopy. We are asking everyone to contribute something to the tailgating—appetizers, main dish, drinks, etc. We will probably need some tables, too. You might want to bring lawn chairs with you to eat in comfort! We plan to meet at 4 p.m. in the parking lot.

To continue another tradition, we will be serving dinner to the Band after their performance. We are asking all parents to provide something for this as well. Whatever you bring for the tailgating, just make more so that we will have left to serve to the band. Please have the food in containers and a way to keep it cold or hot until we serve them.

The Boosters will be providing hoagies for the Band, so we are looking for food that will complement the hoagies. We will also need soda, water, etc. for them. The Boosters will take care of paper products and plastic ware.

PLEASE CALL CAROL OTTO AT 610-430-6555 TO LET HER KNOW WHAT YOU WILL BE BRINGING ON SATURDAY.

******ALSO, CAROL WILL NEED SOMEONE TO PICK UP THE HOAGIES ON SATURDAY AND TRANSPORT THEM TO HERSHEY. SHE WILL BE LEAVING EARLY TO HELP WITH THE PIT AND WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE HOAGIES. WE WILL BE ORDERING FROM WAWA ON MARKET STREET, AND THE HOAGIES WILL BE PAID FOR. YOU WILL JUST HAVE TO PICK THEM UP AT THE DESIGNATED TIME. CALL CAROL IF YOU CAN DO THIS.

Warning to Band Parents and Guardians

Please do not turn on your headlights while the Warriors are practicing on the field at Fern Hill Elementary School. Doing so is annoying and dangerous. The lights distract the band members and cause accidents. The color guard is especially vulnerable.

Please be courteous and leave your lights off!

Too Far for Me Blues

Holy Mazzoli! That competition in Allentown was so far away that I almost forgot I was there and took a bunch of pictures. Whatever: I know I sound like I'm making a mountain out of a molehill, so I'll shut up and let you have a look at these pictures. But before I let you go I gotta tell you that after the shots of my kid, my favorite is the one of the guard flipping their guns into the air. It's wild.
